Who We Are
Originally from Pittsburgh, Karen has been a fixture in Charlotte’s advertising and marketing community for over 30 years. Prior to starting White Advertising, she worked in radio sales and sales management before going on to serve as the VP of Marketing for Beazer Homes. Having accumulated experience on the client, agency, and broadcast sides of the business, Karen founded White Advertising in 1990. You can find her most days in the office with her Great Dane, Izzy, and on Friday afternoons volunteering with the homeless at Urban Ministries – an organization for which she has great passion. Karen has also studied psychology and loves exploring the ways in which it factors into successful media buying.
Manager of Client Services
The majority of Ellery’s days are spent making sure our clients’ needs are met and expectations surpassed. She’s a Charlotte native who grew up immersed in the advertising industry and went on to study Public Relations in the School of Journalism at The University of Chapel Hill. Ellery has a background in digital media and holds an IAB Certification in Digital Media Sales. She’s active with several charitable organizations, most notably sitting on the Executive Leadership Council of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Charlotte in 2012 and 2013. Her yellow lab, Della, is a constant presence in the office and is simultaneously the friendliest and the laziest member of White Advertising.
Director of Brand Strategy
As the Director of Brand Strategy for White Advertising, Kathryn works to focus client’s marketing efforts on reaching the right customers in the right place at the right time. Also a Charlotte native, Kathryn attended UNC Chapel Hill where she studied Advertising in the School of Media & Journalism. Her background is in research, brand planning, and brand positioning. She researches consumer behavior and industry trends to uncover insights, and aims to become fully immersed in your brand before the planning begins. Kathryn also volunteers with the Charlotte chapter of Team River Runner, an organization focused on putting wounded veterans on the road to recovery through kayaking.
Kathy joined White Advertising in 1997 and has been developing media strategies, conducting market research and negotiating and executing media buys for our clients ever since. Kathy’s biggest strength lies in putting together all of the pieces of the media puzzle to creatively address clients’ marketing goals and objectives. Her excellent relationships in the market allow her to negotiate impressive added-value elements and her background in radio promotions helps drive her creation of new and exciting promotion and sponsorship opportunities for our clients. Kathy is a constant learner and prides herself on keeping up with the ever-changing landscape of the advertising and marketing industry.
